Dragonflies are the minnows of the air.
The Bluejays*
A blue jay lands on the edge of a log planter
makes sure the coast is clear
and I guess he sent signal
because, as he’s hopping in
his mate swoops into the poem
and they land simultaneously
amongst the dead stalks.
Blue feathers bob and sway over the edge.
When they move on, they carry a dusty trail with them.
